For Whom Do You Sing
by Leareth

First published July 2008

It's the second year of the First World War, yet for best friends Thomas Williams and Elijah Baker it seems a world away. Both students of a boy's cathedral school, Thomas is a former chorister who looks back on the day his voice broke as the day he won his freedom from the demands of church singing, and now patiently waits for Elijah, current principal soloist, to do the same. Elijah however is doing his best not to think about the day he'll be forced to leave the choir, and the reasons aren't entirely to do with his love of music. The recently appointed choirmaster, unpopular Mr. Darlington, has caught his attention and although he risks Thomas's friendship Elijah thinks that in Mr. Darlington he could find something that Thomas can't fulfil.

Written for the Music issue of boy's love zine Shousteu Bang*Bang, this original short story carries an R rating for adult content and male-male sexual relations.
